This might put plenty of people off, so don’t hesitate to call a professional if needed. What is hard, however, is removing the original windows so you can fit the new ones.

How to Build a Plexiglass Window Boxīuilding your own plexiglass window box isn’t very hard. You can follow most of the instructions for making a plexiglass window box below, but just use 1 sheet instead of 2. You won’t get as much dead air between the panes though. If you decide to only fit 1 sheet of plexiglass, you’ll have a much easier job. As mentioned, this won’t be as effective, but will offer a level of noise reduction. While using 2 panes of plexiglass is the best solution to reducing ambient noise, it is possible to just fit a sheet of plexiglass over your existing window. This will be much more effective than simply installing plexiglass over your existing window, but will be a bigger job. The best thing you can do is to use 2 panes of thick plexiglass. The gap should be between 2 and 4 inches, and is called “dead air”. You’ll need to leave an air gap between the sheets of plexiglass because this will make it harder for sound waves and vibrations to make it into the room. After all, you’ll still want to see out of your windows.

It’s not a surprise that windows are one of the weakest areas when it comes to soundproofing, and I’m always looking out for ways to make a noticeable difference to their noise blocking ability.
